ABOUT TRAINS: For a substantial discount, you can ONLY buy your tickets in person when you get to Spain. You will need to get a
"Tarjeta Dorada" - Gold Card for over 60 years old - 25% to
40% discount, depending on the day. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday, there is a 40% discount. On other days the discount is 25%.
This can be bought at Atocha station in Madrid ticket office for 5
euros. People who are not Spanish citizens or residents need to bring
passports with them to buy the Tarjeta Dorada. We suggest buying this
Tarjeta Dorada (Gold Card) at any point during your stay in Madrid,
but before purchasing any train tickets. You can purchase the Tarjeta
Dorada AND all the train reservations at one time. (You must purchase
the Tarjeta Dorada in person, and cannot purchase it on-line from the
US.) See the complete listing of trains (specific scheduled trains)
that you'll need to purchase on the "Itinerary" on this
blog (click here).
